BATTLEGROUND: LEPTAS ARENA
Rank 10 Battle
Grid 1 (Challenger): Despair II- Sinner
Grid 2 (Defender): Zeratul- uxnr/Oonga-Boonga!
[glow=blue,2,300] This match seemed like déjà vu all over again. Despair II, bearing an uncanny resemblance to Tailsnake’s Genocide, made the same risky move as its infamous rival: challenging Zeratul at the Leptas Arena. Now fresh out of the garage with a major AI change, the battle in motion showcased Despair II’s new tactics for the first time.
Almost instantaneously, Zeratul set its opponent aflame with an inside napalm. Having relied on this strategy in its previous battle, it fired a salvo of micro missiles at it opponent while closing in for the kill with its nichirin.
The intense heat, along with Despair II’s surprising –16 tactics, caused it to sit firmly in place, discharging bazooka rounds as Zeratul got closer. Despite this, the AI was smart enough to move away as the intense flames approached. Showing impressive dodging ability, both ACs jumped and turned frequently as nichirin waves were matched by EO shots.
Then, astonishing everyone, Despair II switched to its back mounted grenade launcher in spite of having stable tactics. The move, fortunately, proved not to be a mistake this time; as the intense heat was just enough for it to escape the wrath of Zeratul’s consecutive EO, napalm, missile, and nichirin attacks. So effective it was, in fact, that Despair II was able to get behind its adversary several times.
Having very little choice, Zeratul was forced to fall back as it was bombarded with grenade shells, only able to redeem itself slightly through several nichirin bursts at the last seconds. Indeed, it proved to be a repeat performance of Genocide’s battle.

Grid 1 Final AP: 2378
Grid 2 Final AP: 0
Winner: Despair II
Credit Rewards/Comments:
- Despair II gets the 2000cred in AP, as well as 300cred for showing interesting new tactics, variation despite stability in AI, and the ability to get behind its opponent (probably one of the most decisive factors of this fight).
- Zeratul gets the 750cred minimum, as well as 50cred for its ‘nichirin barrage’, so to speak, towards the end of the battle. It had good potential to win here, but the problem was that Despair II was quite jumpy and wouldn’t allow itself to be ensnared by the nichirin trap.
- No pics this time since it would be monotonous to see something so similar to Genocide VS Zeratul. I’ll save it for a better match.
