For MH:F the world is quite massive, keeping track of where you can get items can get quite tedious. Post rare items/combo's that you know of here =]
(Though where one would get a rathalos scale isnt quite neccesary *hint*its a rathalos*hint*)
I currently, am In need of some venom sacs.

Venom Sacs are G-ranked
I need a consistent method of getting rathalos shells, I have tons of scales, claws, wings, tails, and even wyvern marrow but only 1 shell.

Don't you have to try to crack its back? Weird thing is I get a lot of shells from rewards after missions when I do that.

Damn, that means I need to use a GS and a pitfall trap (lance is more effective for killing but it barely breaks off anything)

Well...I think you just need to get below the wyvern and do that backwards swing with a GS a few times. The best time to do that is when the wyvern kicks up dirt and then growls (it lowers its head and body...if I can remember correctly, or is it only the Ku-Tu/Garuga that does that?)
I'm sure you have some killer GS's, so it'll probably take you less whacks than it does for me to crack the back off.
Edit: I've killed Rathalos...3, 4, or 5 times (with its back cracked) and I have 8 scales, 5 shells, 2 or 3 webbing, 2 marrow, 2 tails...and probably 2 or 3 of some other parts (if there are any more).

I'm about the same as cobalt. I probably don't play the game as much as you guys, as I'm doing various 3* quests right now.
Trying to kill Gypceros...

Well, you reached 3* a LOT quicker than I did.
Back in the day, all I did was poke wyverns on their legs with a weak SnS, so I couldn't advance that quickly. I just got the hang of slaying wyverns a few days ago.
Gypceros...chubby little fella.

SnS's are awesome.
I don't need to explain why. I don't have any other opinions on weapons @ this point...

GS: Part harvesting Galore around SnS in terms of Damage done per second, slow
Lance: Crazy damage, nice defensively, slow, horrible at part haresting
Hammer: I am horrible with this beyond belief
SnS: Nice damage, fast, great elemental/status damage
DS: Don't Use at all, seem like an even faster SnS from the one time I tried them (I sold my gradios)
Bowgun: Great against slow drgons, good damage and fast, can beat some wyverns without taking a hit

SnS = perfect balance btw defence and offense and it allows you the quick moving capability you need to dodge most wyvern's attacks, not to mention reapplying of status effects very rapidly. Im considering getting the catspaw weapon and upgrading it for the paralysis effect. Wonder if that would let me just smack wyverns till they die =]

I guess SnS is the most balanced, I still don't really like them

Nope.
I tried it (with that same thought), and it didn't work. Big monsters like those can shake it off quickly and counter attack. Besides that, it also takes a couple of hits to get it paralysis. By the time paralysis takes affect, the weapon is pretty much dull or will be in 1 or 2 hits. The Poison Battleaxe is probably the best stats attack so far.

umm...how about the Upper Battleaxe and what comes after it? Is it not as good? I got the Poison Battleaxe and got bored of it quickly (unfortunately)...
I personally prefer GS's because it's best at making the wyverns flinch (by breaking off tails...chipping their backs and stomach regions and wings....chipping their heads, etc etc.). Second would be SnS because a character can be very agile and deal a lot of damage, often accompanied by status and elemental effects (gotta love the poison), and the shield's always a nice addition. Dual swords just...are not as good not only because of the lack of a shield, but because of the seemingly less damage that each slash does (I spent so much time making a high-level dual sword thinking that it will PWN but my efforts resulted in sheer disappointment). I SUCK with the lance, hammer, and bow gun, so my top two would be GS and SnS.

It's dull. Poisoness, but dull.

I got tired of SnS pretty quickly too.
For Lance get under the dragon and use the O attack, only use the ^ attack when you have a clear shot or you're trying to trip the dragon. Charge O+^ when you need to get in range quickly (you run and attack at the same time).
For Guns just get used to staying far from the dragon, combining and timing when to blow you load (intended pun). Guns are a great way to take out slower dragons or normal dragons that don't have minios around them.

mmm....I gotta learn how to use the lance, quick. I'm guessing lances can take out wyverns much faster.

not quite.
I think lance are much more difficult to use than GS, you lose the ability to dodge, and sidestep isn't much when the monsters are that big. The ability to still block while attacking is great, but your stamina will be drain from deflecting attacks and stopped from recovering while in gaurd mode. I have been having a hard time with it, even against slow monsters like Gravious.

For a Lance like Black Temp Which has like 500+ raw power add in power talon and charm you will get over 600+ raw power.Once that happens Hit any of the monster in the wing and you will get an effect which they call wing locking.Just like Head locking but you need alot of raw power and that isn't hard to do.

Lance has to be used in a very different way than other weapons which make them hard to pick up, I can lance a Gravios (chrage attacks and aiming for wing so I can avoid his gas attacks), but lances have the potential to take out wyverns faster. Just remeber the damage modifiers:
Bowgun = 1.2 Swords = 1.4 Lances = 2.3 Greatswords = 4.8 Hammers = 5.2
Those are used to give a comparitive base for attack power (a SnS with 240 attack, a lance with 460, and a GS with 960 all have an equivilent amount of strenght i.e. damage per second).
My favourite lance does 506 damage in addition to 400 dragon damage per hit. Black Tempest (the weapon Gasu is talking about) is in the same clas as a sword with 1200 attack or hammer with 1300.
