Ouch... it seems this board has a curse of people breaking their PSPs.
I wonder how this could've happened, and if it's permanant.
Unfortunate, really.

Well, the power light thing, and the screen turning off, could just mean it's out of juice. The triangle not working.....well, a similar thing happened to my PS2 controller when I held down X for too long.

Well...this might be one of two things.
I HOPE that it's just a battery issue with your PSP. I don't know if battery failures can result in a screen randomly turning off; perhaps your PSP does that standby thing to conserve energy because it's not receiving any?
Worse may be that it has suffered a few bumpy rides in its days with you, and as we all know, Sony stuff tends to break easily...especially a high-end handheld like the PSP.
As for the unresponsive triangle button, I have no idea what's wrong with it. I have problems with an unresponsive O button because I guess I mashed on it pretty hard for some games, and now it seems to get stuck once in a while.

i think it is a battery problem, there is a little key next to the time on the home screen that dissapears when i use the charger only and take out the battery. even the triangle button comes back to life then. and laeq no i haven't been inside of it.

the little key means that your PSP is on hold (power switch clicked all the way down)
your battery is probably jacked up, or something's wrong entirely with the PSP's battery slot and terminals. That could be the reason that the charger works fine but the battery is messed up (charger and battery use different routes on the circuit board)
