Anyone have this game yet, or interested in it? I just bought it yesterday... and even though I've only played for about three hours I was pretty impressed with it . The presentation is pretty solid... nice script, art direction, and sense of humour; but the gameplay isn't too out of the ordinary (except for the brush techniques). Characters are likeable, yet so far there hasn't been many battles. Anything so far has been pretty easy. Lol, many say it's a lot like Zelda. I think it's unique enough in it's own right. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm the only one here who got it. Post your thoughts here...

I refrained from getting it because I know that I will not do anything else until I beat it through and through.
I'm very excited to get my hands on it, though, and I'm sure that it's a refreshing and memorable title like SoTC without a doubt.

Yes, that's the other game that it's being compared a lot to. Especially in terms of "innovation" and overall atmosphere. Okami is quite exceptional... not particularly combat focused but the kind of game that'll charm you. *goes off to continue playing* Edit- Check this reference out, Jacques. It's really hilarious and out of place... but easy to appreciate. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8239V1ML8rE

I'm sure I'll be raving about it even more and making an avatar+sig theme when I get a copy.
I dislike how many people compare this game to Zelda, and overall how many people compare excellent PS and PS2 titles to Nintendo ones and imply that there's some formula-copying going on. I mean, Zelda may be breathtaking in its own right, but it sucks that many solid adventure game titles have fallen under Zelda's shadow.
Even SoTC was compared to that thing and it seemed like any game with a guy with a sword set in a mystical land is just another "Zelda-wannabe." I played Ocarina of Time and SoTC, and I must say my heart goes to SoTC hands down, and that SoTC was unlike any game I've ever played. Zelda may be charming, but SoTC made me want to cry.
I really hope that Okami's popularity will soar in the U.S., because it surely has not in Japan. I haven't even played the game yet, but I feel that the game may very well be on its way to redefining the genre and setting new standards.
On a lighter note, I heard that the brush was hard to use, even with the PS2's nice analog stick. Is that true.?

Yeah, I just have a feeling that it's going to get a big fan following. People over at GameFAQs are even thinking it should have a sequel; that includes me. It would be nice.
I didn't know the game didn't do so well in Japan. Seeing as Famitsu gave it 39/40, I thought it would be at least some measure that it would receive sucess over there (guess not).
Personally, I find the brush very, very simple to control, but it isn't always pin-point accurate (ie. the rejuvenation technique that requires lots of scribbling). You might get messes here and there; then again it doesn't really matter since the game treats your brush work pretty leniently. Most of the time it knows what you are trying to do.
It does help that you can change pressure with the triangle button and straighten with the x button. Can't figure where the difficulty rumor came from.
PS. Did you catch the reference in that vid I posted?

lol, everyone thought Loco Roco will be a big hit there, but it wasn't, and doesn't look like it will ever be (but I absolutely love it). Many believe that it's because the campaign to advertise the game was excessive (it was on subways...buildings..stores...EVERYWHERE), so it wasn't as humble and modest as Namco with katamari damacy, and (maybe) as a result the game wasn't received as well.
I don't know how Okami was packaged and advertised there, but I read in mags and certain articles that it didn't do as well in Japan as the creator estimated (meaning that the company must've been disappointed as well). However, they ARE thinking about a sequel. ^_^
Anyway, what vid are you talking about?

Yep. It was in an interview, I think they said a sequel wasn't out of the realm of possibility. Lol... about Okami and Zelda similarities, the first thing I thought about is that Amaterasu has a glowing "sidekick" (Issun) which is similar to Link and Navi. Other than that, I didn't think into it. Here's the vid, it should be very easy to see the reference: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8239V1ML8rE

OH MY GOODNESS!!!
lol, shin akuma lady.
On another note, the dialogue is kinda wishy-washy, and almost irritating. I hope I won't rip my hair out listening to "wa wa wa wa, wa wa wa, wa wa."

Lol. You'll have to bare with it... personally I thought it was kind of funny.
Even if the voices aren't the greatest, it's easy to enjoy the characters anyway. The script which they speak is usually well written and likeable.

Random plant growing and animal feeding, huh...
I heard the game offers around 30+ hours of gameplay, so if you've logged in 8 doing random stuff and only defeated one boss...then MAN I'll be logging in a bunch more hours.

Lol. Well, that was the first "true" boss- there have been demi-boss confrontations here and there.
I've nearly doubled my time since then.... and still not at the 2nd boss. Wastin' my time searching for these canines... *_*

I just beat two more bosses... I must say the story just got a lot cooler ;D.
One would think that the game would end after that certain third boss... but I've heard I'm only about a 1/3 through.
So addictive.
